KILGALLEN, CAROLYN L. of Westbury, New York and Lake Luzerne, New York, September 22, 1941 – January 15, 2018. Carolyn was born in Far Rockaway, New York, graduated from Queen of the Rosary Academy and Molloy College, entered Novitiate of the Dominican Order of Amityville. She was named Sister Mary Georgiana for the 12 years she was a Nun. She taught kindergarten and first grade at Saint Ignatius (Long Beach Catholic) School and at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Lindenhurst (known as O.L.P.H.). Afterward she started the Kindergarten Program at St. Kilian’s School in Farmingdale. She later transferred to St. Edward the Confessor School in Syosset, where she taught until 2000 when she developed early onset Alzheimer’s. She was also a volunteer tutor at the Fulton Public School in Hempstead. Carolyn and her husband were very active in the Pre-Cana Program at St. Brigid’s Parish in Westbury.
At O.L.P.H., having heard of the slaying of two police officers in New York City, she opened class daily with prayers for policemen going to work each day. This became widely known. Soon she was making appearances throughout Long Island and New York City Police Events. The then Sr. Georgiana wrote articles for many police publications. Lifetime Honorary Memberships to the Nassau and Suffolk Police Holy Name Societies were awarded, presented by Bishops Kellenberg and Daly. She received personal contacts from President Richard M. Nixon and Governor Thomas E. Dewey. Besides her parents, Walter and Georgiana Buchs, she was predeceased by her brother, Richard Buchs. Carolyn is survived by her husband, Kevin Kilgallen and his son, William of Trumbull, Conn.; brother-in-law, John D. Kilgallen, M.D. (Maura); sister-in-law, Nancy of Jacksonville, FL and many nieces and nephews. Reposing Donohue Cecere FH 290 Post Ave. Westbury, NY on Friday 1-5PM and 7-9PM. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday 9:45AM at Holy Family RC Church 17 Fordham Ave. Hicksville, NY. Interment to follow in Holy Rood Cemetery Westbury, NY.
