Lynn B. Murray

August 3, 1933 ~ March 15, 2018 (age 84)

Lynn Murray of Westbury, born August 1933 in Manhasset to the late Donald & Gertrude MacWatt, passed away on March 15, 2018. She was a beloved wife of the late Douglas Murray for 52 glorious years and survived by her four children:  Douglas Murray, Jr. (Ron) Germantown, TN; Donald Murray (Linda), Crestwood, KY; Leslie Murray, Farmingdale, NY; Tamsen Strubel (Eric), Shaftsbury, VT; Grandchildren:  Taylor, Jason, Samantha, Julia and Kyle; sister Sandy Didyk and nephews John, Rob & Jim; also a lifetime of friends.
Lynn attended college for two years, began her work career at Hazeltine, Greenlawn, NY, followed by a 20+ year career at North Shore University Hospital, Manhasset, NY, as a nursing secretary in various department posts throughout the hospital. Once retired, Lynn and Doug spent precious time together travelling all over the world.  Lynn also volunteered for fifteen years in the gift shop at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City.
Lynn was an avid sports fan. Everyone knew not to call during Sunday football or during the last round of any major golf or tennis tournament!  She loved ice skating with Doug early in their relationship, bowling with friends, shooting hoops with her grandchildren, as well as bocce and ping pong at numerous family reunions.  One year, Lynn and her good friend Joan even coached the 11-12 year old girls Central Nassau softball team.  No surprise they went undefeated for the season.  It was just in her bones to be out and about and active!  Shopping was also one of Lynn’s favorite pastimes. Whether it was picking up elementary school supplies for the grandkids, finding the perfect gift for a loved one or stocking up on coffee ice cream, Lynn would go to great lengths to find the best deal available!  One of Lynn and Doug’s favorite activities was attending (coach) Leslie’s Varsity Field Hockey games at Clarke High School… enthusiastically watching and cheering “Go Clarke” from the sidelines.  Lynn was given the loving name of “Momma Murr” by the athletes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to W.T. Clarke Varsity Field Hockey, 740 Edgewood Drive, Westbury, NY, would be welcome.
