Louise Stellato

STELLATO, Louise, 93, of Westbury, NY died July 12, 2019. Beloved wife of the late Albert for 67 years. Loving mother of Michael (Arlene), Amelia (late Gerard), Amato (Tana), Albert (late), Robert (Nancy). Devoted grandmother to Amanda, Colleen, Brendon, Lauren, Joseph, Siobhan, Jason, Mallory, Rebecca and Marie. Louise was born in Brooklyn and moved to Bayside as a child. A cosmopolitan, proud Pratt Institute graduate, she followed her new husband in 1950 to then, rural Westbury, where they built their home and raised their 5 children. Louise was a partner in her husband's landscape and masonry design business. She had a keen mind for business and was also a talented clothing designer and seamstress who designed and sewed costumes for a local ballet company when her children were young. When all of her children were finally in school, Louise took this passion to her home economics teaching career at St. Francis Prep High School where she became Department Chair. Louise earned a Masters Degree from Queens College where she later held the position of Adjunct Associate Professor. She was Area Coordinator and past President of the Home Economics Association and past President of the League of Women Voters. Louise always kept up with popular culture, music, and fashion. She hosted countless parties and holidays in her home. She was a devout Catholic and attended daily mass. Louise was active in the Carle Place community, an avid golfer and ballroom dancer with her husband, soprano in the Our Lady of Hope choir, Scrabble enthusiast, world traveler, and volunteer at the Nassau County Museum of Art into her 90s. Louise's greatest treasure was her large family who will miss her advice, wisdom, quick wit, and love. Friends may visit on Tuesday, 7-9 pm, Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 at Donohue-Cecere Funeral Home, 290 Post Ave., Westbury. Mass of Christian Burial Thursday at 10 am at Our Lady of Hope R.C.
