James Webb Jr.

Tribute

WEBB, James Jr., of New York City, formerly of St. Louis, MO on June 14, 2018 at the age of 82. Beloved husband of Helen (nee Conde). Dear brother-in-law of Lucy and John Conde.

James was born in St. Louis to Mary (nee Cheesemond) and James, Sr. on January 9, 1936. At the age of 9 years he came to New York City where he was raised by his aunt LaTrace Russell, who raised him as her own son. LaTrace lived to be 100 years and 3 months old.

James finished high school and attended some college before dropping out so that he could join the United State Army while continuing his education. He served 6 years in the Army and 15 years in the Army Reserve. James received the following honors:
*SSG Web has met and excelled all standards for equipment maintenance and maintaining equipment operations.
*SSG Webb contributed many hours of his own time in order to train unit personnel on several field missions outside of unit drills.
*SSG Webb worked with the Southern European Broadcast Engineering section during Annual Training 1991 in Vicenza, Italy and received high praise for his expertise in studio operations.
*SSG Webb has at all times demonstrated excellent leadership abilities, served as a role model for the soldiers in his section. His demeanor and military bearing due credit to the NCO Corps.
*SSG Webb recognized for outstanding performance of duty while assigned to the 340th PAD during the period 01 Jan 88 – 01 Jan 91. As Fixed Station Radio Repairman, SSG Webb was responsible for increasing units readiness for mobilization. SSG Webb’s devotion to duty reflects great credit upon himself, the 340th PAD and USAR Program.

On February 10, 1967, James married his beloved wife Helen Conde in New York City. He worked for the NYC Transit System as an Electric Technician for 30 years. When James retired, he received 2 pensions plus Social Security.

James loved to work to make money to live a good life. He was the most gentle and loving person, he got along with everyone and everyone loved him. James had 2 daughters, Eleanor and Mary from a previous relationship. He loved to read and learn all that he could, especially about the body, brain and medicine.

James also leaves behind many friends including Carolyn and Richard, Fran and Dennis, and Glenda, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will dearly miss him.

Reposing at Donohue Cecere Funeral Home, 290 Post Ave., Westbury, NY 11590 on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Brigid’s RC Church, 50 Post Ave., Westbury on Wednesday at 9:45 AM. Interment following at Pinelawn Memorial Park, 2030 Wellwood Ave., Farmingdale, NY.
