Geraldine “Geri” K. Poisnet (née Henderson), 70, passed away May 6, 2020, at her home in Westbury, following a decades-long battle with MS and sharp decline in health in recent months.
Geri was born on December 13, 1949, in Manhattan, to Joseph V. and Norma Henderson. She married Henry Poisnet in 1980 and resided in Maspeth, Queens, until relocating to Westbury, Long Island, in the mid-1980s. Always professional and independent, she maintained a successful administrative/management career with Verizon in Manhattan, before her illness dictated an early retirement.
Geri is lovingly recalled by her family and friends as the gentlest of souls, with the most golden heart. An endearing chatterbox, she was known to enjoy social gatherings, trivia, a good meal, and a well-placed glass of wine. Despite the challenges of her illness, Geri was noted for her selflessness, lack of complaints, and for her unwavering Catholic faith. Remembered fondly for her kindness, laughter, generosity, and wholesomeness, she is survived by her mother (Norma Henderson); brothers, Mick (Linda) and Joseph T. Henderson; five adoring nieces and nephews (Chris, Lisa, Kerin, Jenny, and Tim); and devoted feline companion (Ricky). She is preceded in death by her husband (Henry), father (Joseph V. Henderson), sister (Mazie Henderson Tsironis), and faithful canine sidekick (Corky).
Due to COVID-19, Geri will be privately interred at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury, in care of Donohue Cecere Funeral Directors; details for a memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or North Shore Animal League in Geri’s honor.
