Charles A. Smith

Charles A. Smith was born May 26, 1931 in Great Neck, New York; son of Charles A. Smith Sr. and Harriet Ellard Smith.
While still attending Great Neck High School, he began working at Charles E. Ward Engineering and Surveying Company, where he developed an interest in becoming a Professional Civil Engineer/ Land Surveyor.
He attended Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute to begin his career. During this time he was drafted into the United States Army Corp of Engineers, stationed in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, serving two years during the Korean Conflict. He attained the rank of Corporal.
After his marriage to Peggy Ann Fox, Charles returned to Brooklyn Poly and graduated in 1958. He and his wife eventually moved to Carle Place, NY, and raised four children, Charles Scott, Kerry, Patricia and Nancy.
Charles worked at Nelson and Pope Engineering, before working for the Nassau County Department of Public Works in the Sewer/Sanitation division for many years, retiring in 2002.
A strong family man, he was admired and respected by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, his four children and their spouses; his five grandchildren, his sister, Ruth LeCluse and his brother Richard Smith and their spouses.
He is remembered, loved and will be missed by all his family and friends.
