Anton Hugo Smith

December 27, 1976 ~ November 14, 2022 (age 45) 45 Years Old

Tribute

Anton Hugo Smith, "Hugo", was born in Discovery Bay, Jamaica, W.I. on December 27, 1976 to Curley and Valrie Smith. In 1978, Hugo and his parents moved to Westbury, NY.  As the eldest of 4 children, and as a big brother, Hugo always set a fine example of being a humble, loving, and caring human being.
Hugo attended Park Avenue Elementary, Powells Lane Elementary, and Westbury Middle School.  He graduated from Westbury High School. After graduation, Hugo started his career as a truck driver in the construction industry where he specialized in commercial, industrial, and residential construction projects.  He drove 18-wheelers and concrete trucks with ease, and was well-respected by his "construction family" at Commercial Concrete.
Hugo stayed true to his Jamaican roots and loved spending months at a time in Jamaica, where he was a successful farmer. Farmer Smith inherited his 'green thumb' from his parents, and harvested beautiful, delicious fruits and vegetables.
Hugo got along with everyone. His laughter was infectious and he had jokes for days.  Whether he was fixing things, plowing snow, or power-washing, he always did everything with a great big smile.  Hugo was very passionate about cooking and loved to fire up the grill. He was a family man who loved to go fishing, and often took Anton Jr., LaLa and Byron on the boat with him.  When they were younger, Hugo used to take them on the road in his big work trucks.  He always made himself available for family, his children, and friends in need. He was a kind-hearted person with a heart of gold, whose smile alone brightened up any room.
At the age of 45, Hugo departed this life on Monday November 14, 2022, surrounded by his close family, after a long battle with cancer. He leaves to mourn his passing: his parents, Curley and Valrie Smith; his cherished sister, Nola Smith; his beloved wife, Argel Miller-Smith; children Lucretia "LaLa" Smith and Anton Hugo Smith, Jr.; nephew, Byron Rudolph; and a host of other relatives and friends.
