Maureen “Gee” Daley, age 84, died at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC on February 22, 2018 as a result of complications from heart surgery. Maureen was born on June 26, 1934 in Westbury, New York. She married John Daley in 1965 and lived in New York, Massachusetts, Kansas and Pennsylvania before finally settling in Southern Maryland. Maureen worked for a variety of aviation companies, took time off from paid work to raise her family, and later returned to work at the Department of the Navy. She worked in the Human Systems Department and retired in 2012 at age 78.
Maureen was a kind and gentle person who loved spending time with family and friends. She especially enjoyed her role as a grandmother, and spent many hours with her four grandsons. She enjoyed the comforts of home, and was a skilled seamstress and baker, and a master of classic movie trivia. So many relatives and friends have enjoyed the hand knit and hand sewn items she often made when a new baby arrived, or when someone needed a seamstress. At work, Maureen was well known, and incredibly well liked. She was someone you could always depend on and was always there to brighten the lives of others. We will all miss her stories, her easy smile, and her contagious laughter.
Maureen was the beloved grandmother to her four grandsons, Michael Daley and Harry, Frank and Fred Daley-Young. She was preceded in death by her husband John, and her brothers Michael, Jimmy, Thomas, Gerard and Francis Finn. She is survived by her sister, Marie Hladky, her sisters-in-law Rose, Mary-Jane, Kathy and Maureen, her daughter Liz Daley and son-in-law Bryan Young, her son John and daughter-in-law Erica Daley, her four grandsons, and dozens of nieces and nephews.
