CURRAN, John James Patrick, 89, of Carle Place, NY on August 24, 2017. John graduated from Seton Hall University where he ran track. He was also a veteran, having served in the Korean War. John joined the FDNY where he worked until his retirement. A proud Irishman, John played the bagpipes and was a member of the FDNY Pipes & Drums, performing all over Long Island.
John loved working in his garden and took great pride in his landscaping and beautiful flowers. His passion was swimming and you could find John year round at Bar Beach. Everyone at the beach and in the neighborhood knew John, “The Mayor” as he was known for his charismatic personality.
John is survived by his wife Betty, his daughters Kathleen and Aileen and son Brian. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Corinne, Dean, Ian and Natalie Ann. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Family will receive friends at Donohue Cecere Funeral Home, 290 Post Ave., Westbury, NY on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The interment will be at St. John’s Cemetery, Middle Village, Queens, NY on Tuesday, leaving the funeral home at 10AM.
